Dear Faithful Readers,

Here’s the Haps:

The other day, I received a comment from a longtime reader who said they had signed up for email updates but were not getting any emails. I emailed them and found that my posts were not showing up in their WordPress reader, either. This person has been on WordPress for ten-plus years. I went into my subscriber list and found they had signed up, but under the email column, their profile said, “not sending.” I expected to just go into my subscriber list and toggle something, and it would start sending. Nope. No such thing. Go to manually add the person, and it says, “Subscriber already added.” So I have been going back and forth by email with a support person who first had to ask me all the same questions the stupid AI chatbot had already asked. It’s still not resolved yet, but now I am worried. If one person is not receiving emails from me and I’m not appearing in their WP Reader feed, how many more people might this be happening to? Even though today is day 59 of this streak, historically, I don’t have a very consistent record of updating. This means that some people, who only ever get my posts by email, could be missing out as well as a lot of people who only use the WordPress Reader.

If you would be so kind and could spare a moment, please let me know if you have also had problems receiving my email updates or reading me on WP Reader. Thanks so much.

      Yay! That was something the “Happiness Engineer” was going to work on. They said they could only see posts up to June, 2024. They were going to “trigger a re-sync” on it.

    I just subscribed to your blog. We’ll see what happens.

    I find that things in WordPress works sometimes and not others. Especially when they update things. Got to get the bugs out I guess.

    I have been subscribed to Haps with Herb for awhile now and I had requested e mails on posts — and so far I have not seen an email on posts nor have I seen you in the reader…. I do see you when you make a comment on my blog.

      very strange stuff. Here is part of what I received in answer that people can try. I plan to make a post on it when I feel it’s resolved more completely but you can try these things if you’d like,
      “Her email notification setting is paused, which means she won’t receive new post emails unless it’s unpaused from her WordPress.com subscriptions page:
      https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions. ”
      ” a few pending subscriptions in her account (https://wordpress.com/reader/subscriptions/pending). These can sometimes cause unexpected behaviors with resubscriptions.

      She can clear those out by heading to: https://wordpress.com/me/subscriptions/pending
      From there, she can either confirm or remove the listed sites. ”
      ” Regarding your site not appearing in the Reader, I conducted some testing on my end and can confirm that your site is indeed showing up in the WordPress.com Reader, but I was only able to see posts from June 2024.

      Just to be thorough, I’ve triggered a full sync on your site to make sure all recent posts are properly indexed and visible to your followers. This can help clear up any lingering issues with Reader visibility. “

    I have not been able to add your site to the WordPress Reader for some time. I just tried again and couldn’t. The reader would not let me scroll down the list of sites in the ‘Manage’ section either. I guess the developers are doing their thing again, which means something will be broken for a while.

      Oof! I’m really sorry this is happening to folks. The Happiness Engineer said she could only see my post in the Reader up until June of 2024 but that she had fixed it and could see my posts now. It’s aggravating, to say the least.
