Dear Fans, Friends, Fiends, Foes, Foundlings, First-Time-Visitors, and Frogs,
Here’s the haps:
It was twenty years ago, today
Uncle Herb thought he had somethin’ to say
In many places blogging’s out of style
And maybe I’m just in denial
But this is my place to be heard
About any notion on which I’m stirred
The one and only blog called The Haps With Herb
(apologies to Beatles fans if I’ve botched this parody, but it just kind of fit, you know)
What started out as a writing exercise that was supposed to help me create good writing habits and consistency has turned into this. It was originally called Prudentia Sit – Let common sense prevail, but about four years ago I changed the name. I still plan to write about whatever I feel like even though I have a lot less time at the moment than I ever did. The post that started it all can be found at this link https://thehapswithherb.com/2004/10/04/to-blog-or-not-to-blog/ way back on Herbdate 16313-001(before I actually did Herbdates), 7,304 days ago. 240 months ago. Before my first grandchild was born. Life has changed a lot and as I go back through and re-read some old posts I discover that some stuff was just drivel and some was really pretty good. I haven’t deleted any of them (on purpose). I see people I mentioned in passing or that were the focus of a post (like the stuff about my parents’ last days) and realize a lot of things have happened in my life over the last twenty years. I see comments from people who are no longer on the Internet or at least no longer have a blog and I also see comments from people who have been around for a very long time. I regret I didn’t write more about some of the things that happened over the last twenty years and some of the people who are no longer available to question. I regret I didn’t write more but in the same breath (okay, not the same breath, I had to stop and take a breath) I am glad that I recorded the things I did at least.
One of the things that has always amazed me is you, Gentle Reader. I have always been blessed to have some very intelligent and very educated (which are not always the same thing) readers in my audience and I appreciate all of you. I want to thank everyone who has ever stopped by and everyone who ever stops by in the future. Thank you.

I like comments and try to respond to them all if I can:
