Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23431 – 1196
Dear Readers,
Even though I enjoy puns and jokes I have never been good at coming up with pranks for April Fool’s Day. I have a granddaughter that has made up for it in times past though. One year she put googly eyes on everything in their house. The faucets, the eggs, the milk, just googly-eyes on all kinds of stuff. I’ve thought about switching blogs with someone for a day but I don’t think I could pull it off, even if I could find someone who wanted to do it. It used to be funny when the comics in the newspaper would do that. Back when comics were big and great and were the top thing on the newspaper. Grammarly wanted to correct the word “on” in the previous sentence to “in” but as a kid I used to go by the newsstand and the Sunday Papers had the full-size comics wrapped over the rest of the paper so when you looked at the Chicago Tribune, there was Dick Tracy’s latest Sunday adventure. On the Milwaukee Journal, the top comic was Peanuts, one of my many all-time personal favorites. A few years ago some of the comic artists traded comics for April Fool’s Day which was really funny. Anyway, I couldn’t think of a really sufficient prank for you all this year, so,
Here’s The Haps:
Already I am questioning my choices of words for the A- Z challenge but I did reserve the right to change my mind on them and do other words. But these first two words were just…I don’t know. Take the word “apepsia.” It means a person doesn’t have the ability to digest food and is associated with Anorexia Nervosa. Blogworthy? Yes. Important? I would think so. Something I want to discuss at length with my readers? Probably not. It’s just not stuff I usually write about.
Adrenaline or what is also called the Fight-Or-Flight hormone, was also on the list, which is a word that has a lot more potential for fun. It pumps through your body from 2 small glands that sit atop each kidney, called, interestingly enough, The Adrenal Glands. The Adrenal Medulla, inside the gland, makes it. It is meant to protect us in times of high stress and danger by quickening our heartbeat, strengthening our muscles, providing distraction from pain, and many other things. Just search the term “adrenaline rush” in case you don’t know. When you do search it you will also find that a lot of people who engage in extreme sports and activities like bungee jumping and skydiving do these things to get this hormonal high.
Adrenaline is also known as epinephrine which is in the EpiPen that people with severe allergies carry around with them. I know a man who has a deadly reaction, Anaphylaxis, to bee stings and this shot of adrenaline has saved his life more than once. The EpiPen is a temporary measure and the person still needs to get to the hospital immediately, before the drug wears off.
And there is a way to induce a mass adrenaline rush amongst any group of people. This is from one of my favorite comic strips, called Harley, and shows a great way to get things going:
