So, my son has had an opportunity to restart blogging but when some of his commenters on his newest post leave an emoji (He has several that use them a lot) they show up as question marks. I am working on figuring it out. It just happened on my latest post, too. This post is a test post and will likely update as the day goes on. ????️♂️???????????? I’ll try to log what I do…
????????????
14:17 I was locked out of the site completely again and had to drive someone to an appointment. I apparently can get in using the Jetpack app on the phone, however. Hmm…
It appears to have taken that update. I’ll try emojis from Google keyboard on the phone:????????????????????????????
Nope. At least I can get into the admin area ????????
21:56 Tried changing to utf8mb4_unicode_ci Emojis you can type, e.g. “:)” convert in the comments but emojis from other sources don’t.
The whole aggravating thing about this hoo-haw is that it had been working just fine and then just started doing this with no major changes to anything. 🙂 🙂
🤠😎🤠
This was an adventure in backend development. 🕵️♂️🤠 wound up learning, after many searches, hours on the tech chat, and experimenting I learned that in php 8.1 you have to enable nd_mysqli and disable mysqli ⁉👀
Anyway, I don’t mind working on stuff that’s messed up and investigating it when it’s mine but I was upset because many of the fans of my son’s site, Brother’s Campfire, use emojis quite a bit. I’m hoping it works now. 🤞

🙂 and <3
so, my smiley worked! … but my heart did not. but hey, no ???? here!
Strangely enough when I looked at your comment on the reader in the phone, the heart showed up. ugh!????
The heart shows up on my end. ????
The new comments are awful. I’ve noticed that WordPress has one issue after another. Let me see what happens.
♥ 🙂 🙁
Have a great day and rest of the week. 🙂
Ohh no I always use smiley emojis.
???? This is the karpathiazanian task force entrusted with the job of disabling emojis in your solar system. Seems to work for a while until one of your evil tech geniuses figure out how to reenable these pictures of things that our solar system finds objectionable. Aargh!????????
????????????
????
Ahh, it’s working again!🤠
Oops, no it’s not???
Oh, yes, it is.😁
Arghh, now it’s not????
Yeah, it’s back up.😄
Oh, well, you earthlings can keep your emojis. This is not worth the effort.😰
🙃🤦♂️👽
Yes, when this happens, I usually go frantic. I was off social media for a while and haven’t experienced this recently.
So aggravating, for sure. 😤 Thanks for stopping by. 😊
?????? authority. 😉
It was an arrgghh moment for sure. 😤🤠
Wha…? ????????????
Oh yes, I see…
I was so annoyed! Thanks for visiting, though. 🤠
*Very happy to be here smiling emoji*
😊
The WordPress design team likes to make changes – and they don’t realize how it affects other things until something that worked gets broken! I’ve pointed out three such instances in the past few months to the Happiness Engineers!
This was more likely Godaddy updating some back-end software and not telling anybody. 😤🙄
😎
A good question.
It took several, several hours but I finally (🤞) fixed it. I think. I hope. thanks for stopping by, Bruce.
It took me a long time to figure out how to add an emoji to emails and Blog comments but it turns out to be just another action that causes trouble when it doesn’t work right!
🤪yeah…
Happy New Year! 🎉
I guess it’s either 🏆🤸♀️🎉 or ☄️🌪😖. Unless you can’t see the emojis. Then it’s just “what the heck?”
I hate change.
Change is especially frustrating when there’s no warning. 😤 Oh well, I like to maintain perspective by saying, “If that’s the biggest problem I have in life, I’m doing pretty good.” I still get mad about it, though.
