Kentucky on the Blogging A – Z Challenge

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23077 – 11102

Here’s the haps:

Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It looks a lot like Wisconsin in some places and until the Lord planted me in Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains I always said it would be my second choice of a place to live after Wisconsin. There is a lot to see and do here. Also, if we drove from here, there are a lot of things and places to see along the way. If we did this as a vacation we might need a couple of weeks. One of the reasons is that I am a moseyer and when I see signs along the road for strange or interesting-sounding attractions, I want to stop. And there are a lot of those along this route.

This overview map is kind of hard to see so I will break it down. I am kind of interested in distances since I realized the other day that the whole island of Ireland would fit inside the state of Colorado. This first leg of our journey would have us stop in Junction City, Kansas at the Cracker Barrel restaurant. Mrs. Herb and I have our pictures taken in the rocking chairs every time we visit there.

Next, we will get some barbecue in Kansas City and head to St. Louis, Missouri, and see the Gateway Arch, hopefully riding the tram to the top.

Then our route passes right through Evansville, Indiana which is home to a blogger I have followed for a long time and who has followed me. Perhaps we can meet up and he can order us lunch on the Wendy’s app. Or not.

One of our main goals is to a nondescript little town coal-mining town called Crofton, Kentucky. I don’t know really why we want to go there. The kindness that was shown to us by a Pentecostal preacher and his daughter will likely be completely unknown to anyone but us, but I would like to at least see the church there. I told the story of what happened there when I told about our elopement plans in a post quite a while back. The tl;dr version of the story is that a kind man picked up a couple of teenage hitchhikers on a dark night. His daughter befriended us and he wound up paying our bus fare back to Wisconsin.

Even though the end point looks to be Cincinnati, Ohio, (I do know a blogger in Ohio, but I don’t know which part) it’s only on there to say we have been to Ohio as well. The real goal of the trip is a place called the Ark Encounter which sports a full-size replica of Noah’s Ark and a Creation Science museum. The thing is amazing and we have wanted to see it for a long time.

Ark Encounter–neat! I’ll have to watch that vid and share it with Hubby.

I really want to see it, too.

Have a great trip! Make sure to wave on your way to St. Louis. I live just off I-70, so I’m sure I’ll see you.

Well, at least there’s just as much chance I will as that you’ll actually take the trip. But I hope you do someday!

It’s likely in the future but just not this year at all.

I will be happy to do that!

My Daddy’s people have a couple hundred years of history in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Check out Mammoth Cave if you get in the area!

🤦‍♂️How could I forget Mammoth Cave? I knew about it. I liked Hopkinsville, too. Must have been the great people.

Looking fly at the cracker barrel there. I know a lot of people who have been to Ark Encounter, it seems to get good reviews.

It sounds very impressive to me.

Plan at least one night in Lexington, KY, and let Anita and I treat you to the Horse Capital of the World!
If you do the Ark, allow one full day for that; another day for the Creation Museum very close to Cinn.
Depending on how much time you have, Kentucky’s Natural Bridge is worth an excursion, too.
    ❤️&🙏, c.a.

That sounds very nice, indeed. I had already anticipated those attractions would take more than a couple of hours. The Natural Bridge does look interesting, also.

Kentucky is a beautiful place. Living just one state north, I should have been to more than just Louisville and Owensboro, but I have at least driven through the state when going farther south.

It’s some pretty country, for sure.

The Ark Encounter is on my list for the near future. It’s about 4 & 1/2 hours from me, but the Kentucky border isn’t far at all.

That’s one I really want to do.

  9. […] you may or may not remember from our trip to Kentucky to the Ark Encounter, on our way we will pass through the state of Missouri and I mentioned a stop […]
