Grand Canyon Redux on the Blogging A – Z Challenge

Grand Canyon Redux on the Blogging A – Z Challenge

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23072 – 1097

Here’s the haps:

We definitely have every intention of going back to the Grand Canyon. We had a great trip on the last visit but there was still a lot to see and do that we missed due to time and inexperience with it. Now that we know what is there and what we want to see, a second trip is definitely in order. Because I’m a veteran I also am getting a pass that allows me into all national parks for free. The America the Beautiful – Military Lifetime Pass is a cool deal.

One of the things we thought we wanted to do when we went back was to ride the train but apparently it doesn’t actually go through or into the canyon, it just takes you from Williams, Arizona to the South Rim through desert and forest terrain. Since we plan to do the Silverton train this doesn’t seem all that wonderful now. Although they do perform a reenactment of a train robbery while you are on the ride and they have singers strolling through the cars so I guess it can be entertaining. Maybe we will and maybe we will do something else. I wouldn’t mind doing the helicopter ride. If I did the mule ride I would definitely have to lose weight and I don’t think Mrs. Herb and TNT would do very well. Even after losing weight, I might not do too well, either. My hips and knees may not be up for riding anymore, either.

There is lodging in the canyon itself and while it’s pricey and you have to book between 6 months and a year in advance, I think it would be worth it just to say, “Yeah, I’ve done that.” Camping in the canyon is a possibility as well. It is a very beautiful place, no matter what and we are going again. I didn’t add a lot of pics to this post because there are a lot of pics on the post I did last year and it’s hard to really do the beauty and majesty of it justice no matter how many pictures you take. I did find this kind of mellow song about it that has a lot of pictures with it, though:

Likelihood of this happening within the next year: 0+%
Likelihood of this happening in my lifetime (Lord willing, as I said in the first couple of posts): 100%
Likelihood of running into someone I know or met on the Internet: Who knows‽‽‽

Been there twice back in the 90s. Once in summer and once after a snow in the canyon. My son took grandson this this past summer and they did the train and mule excursion, scared them plenty.

I can imagine. It looks like quite an adventure. I should have done it when I was younger, lol.

My Mom always said that the two places that exceeded her expectations the Grand Canyon and the Taj Mahal. P.S. I loved the Goodman clip.

Thanks. Yes, it definitely exceeded our expectations.

I agree. 100% percent of chance of meeting somebody you know there. I heard of it that if you are a veteran, you can go to those historical sites in Philadelphia for free and you can park anywhere you want for free.

I don’t know about the parking but yes, most of the other things I probably can.

I hope you get back sooner than later. I would love to see it, and maybe I will at some point.

The Grand Canyon is beyond amazing. We’ve been there several times – first time in 1976, last time in 2002 (I think). Would love to see it again!!

It’s definitely worth doing more than once, for sure!

This is another place I have not been. I wonder if anyone has ever made reservations at Grand Canyon by mistake when intending to visit Grand Cayman? I’ll bet they are not at all alike.
