Blogging A – Z Challenge 2021: I Is For Inspired

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22345 – 811:

Here’s the haps:

I have been waiting for this moment to come for quite a while now. We had a false start a few months ago but now Sunday School will be starting back up again. We are making changes to the way we do things, of course, but I will be teaching tomorrow (depending, of course, on when you are reading this) and we are rebooting the theme we had last time, Super Heroes of the Bible, based on the chapter sometimes called The Hall of Faith, Hebrews eleven. I will be teaching the story of Cain and Abel and how God had respect for Abel’s offering. According to Oxford Languages via The Google, respect means:

1: A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
2: Due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others.

Oxford Languages via Google

We often think of the second definition but the first one really captured my imagination. Imagine doing something in such a way that the very God of Heaven has a feeling of deep admiration! I don’t think it was the content of the sacrifice either so much as the attitude. The attitude of Cain is obvious from his reaction and from the fact that he could murder his little brother in cold blood without remorse. Abel, on the other hand, is referred to by Jesus Himself as “Righteous Abel.”

I’ve got to go for now but remember, the good book says, How long did Cain hate his brother? As long as he was Abel.

There are so many Bible stories I don’t know but my interest is piqued. Some brothers love each other very much, while other brothers battle each other. Your blog inspires me to write about a pair of brothers who love each other, but as their business grow, they start to fight and eventually becomes archenemies. It is a true story.

Just googled Cain and Abel, and it is a touching story. Jealousy can drive people crazy, but most people can repress such evil impulses.

I think I’ll continue to be an agnostic, but I love stories.

I hope all goes well at your church and that people are able to stay well. Numbers are skyrocketing in our public schools right now and it’s scary. It’s wonderful that the children have you as a teacher.

I just watched a movie that was kind of a great analogy for Cain, how perhaps (and I admit I actually wrote a book years ago with basically the same conclusion) what really happened with him is that he was the actual victim of the expulsion, that Adam & Eve losing Eden, and God, was something that fell on him, that first real loss of innocence and not being able to grasp what was lost. God tells him his brother’s gift was better, and Cain didn’t know how to process it. So he kills him.

Interesting take. Still doesn’t really provide an excuse. You killed your own brother, no matter what your reasons were. I’m sure in this modern society he could get a good plea bargain.

So many interesting stories especially how the mark of Cain moves through the old testement. I wonder why there are so many who want to name their children Cain in these modern times

God bless you for working to educate another generation on the treasures of scripture. I fear that this practice, which has been a societal common denominator, if nothing else, is becoming lost. I also fear that the lack of believing Christians among young adults is a major driver of the worst trends we face.
