Throw It Back Thursday – what’s past is prologue

Throw It Back Thursday – what’s past is prologue

Whereof what’s past is prologue, what to come
In yours and my discharge.

Shakespeare – The Tempest

That’s really a pretty dramatic opening for this post, but I happened to see the quote somewhere and recalled a bit of The Tempest to memory and realized I don’t have anything nearly as dramatic as all that to say. Sometimes after doing the posts that draw out strong feelings from me, like Saturday and Sunday’s were I feel kind of drained and out of energy to write anything. Sometimes the day just gets away from me. But really, what

I had to say has kind of disappeared from my mind. I find that a lot in my drafts folder. I started out to say something grand, strong, important, eloquent and I said, “I shall verily return to this very thing and write it!” Whether it be strong, scathing rebuke or flowery speech or a humorous anecdote. Then when I come back to it I can’t seem to remember what it was that I was going to say, let alone whether I had a point to it or not. That’s how the “Throw It Back Thursday” category came about. Ideas that kind of fizzled out or jokes or things that I found while trying to glean my old folders.

In my wanderings I found an old poem that references this old Fibber Magee and Molly episode entitled McGee the Poet. It’s 30 minutes if you want to listen to it:

Fibber McGee and Molly: McGee the Poet 4/03/1945

The file of the poem below was date-stamped 11/04/2003. I was waiting for my wife to finish working with one of her client’s in this pretty little park that overlooked a very sweet meadow that isn’t there any more.

VIEW

Fibber Magee waited for the “moose” to strike him
And sitting in this pretty park I feel like him.
Peaceful, quiet place of rolling green hills and shade.
Clover scented breezes. This day for man was made.
Scanning the horizon I search for my own muse
Or moose. (methinks within amuse is a muse)…
Wait now! On the near horizon, dust cloud I see,
Oh, what kind of bunch of bulldozer can this be?
On the park’s farthest side over across the street
Developers like a Vogon Constructor Fleet.
Oh. They mean to help me by providing a view;
Instead of the mountains, I see the mall brand-new.

Throw it back!
