Memeingful Mudgeonly Monday – Duct Tape Edition

Memeingful Mudgeonly Monday – Duct Tape Edition

(For the record, Duck is the original brand name of this type of tape.)

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 23086 – 1127

Dear Fans, Friends, Fiends, Foes, Foundlings, Faithful Followers, Fellow Bloggers, and Everybody Else,

Here’s the haps:

Margy over at Amusives was talking about how her husband, The Car Guy, declared that her vacuum cleaner of ten years was deceased. In the comments, I recalled how I had a sergeant one time tell me that you only needed 2 items in your toolbox, duct tape and WD-40. If it moves and it isn’t supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it’s supposed to, WD-40. If WD-40 doesn’t work, use a hammer. Back in 2009, I did a post about Duck tape.

Actually, there are four tool groups, Duct Tape, WD-40, Hammers, and Baling Wire/Binder Twine/Zip Ties. But these memes are about the first two.

I think I’ll run out and pick up a few rolls. You know, just in case.

You have to be ready for anything.

We call it gaffer tape – I have no idea why – but it does everything just the same

A duck tape by any other name would stick as well…I think…

    Duct tape fixes everything.

Yes sir. You just have to use enough, sometimes.

This post brought back memories of when one of my sons was little. He loved duck tape. He walked around with it in his little red wagon and would “fix” anything he came across. I use to find tape on everything. He’s now 28 and we still joke with him about it. Lol

That’s a lot of fun. I bet he still uses it to fix stuff, though, lol.

    Thanks for the ‘mention’ Herb!
One of the comments on my duct tape post was from a lady who said “My sister-in-law’s sons played ball in her flower beds and duct taped the allium flower heads back on to their stems before she came home, hoping it wouldn’t be noticed.” There is no end to things you can do with duct tape!

There was this great episode of Mythbusters where they were “stranded” on a deserted island with a palette of duct tape. Turns out it’s enough 😁

      That’s funny!

Here is my question – duct tape has taken over as the go-to for almost every kind of repair. But – – how long since you saw an HVAC guy actually use it to seal air ducts?

    1. Herb Avatar

I think I’m going to duck that question.

I agree. A roll of duck tape can mend anything that’s broken.

    1. Herb Avatar

Pretty much. Especially if you use enough, lol.

I’m a firm believer in duct tape too!! Really, enjoyed this.

      Lol, it works!

Oh yes, we’re caravanners and we’ve learnt that you can travel right around Australia with just two tools, cable ties and duct tape.

Incredibly versatile. Some wire, even wire coat hangers, can come in handy, too.
