Here’s the haps:

This is a state I know almost nothing about but after looking at the map I decided I wanted to do it. I could start by going to Wisconsin, maybe visiting friends and relatives, and then just doing some touristy things and heading west through Minnesota which has a lot of its own natural beauty and is called the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes. A little past Fargo is Jamestown where the world’s largest bison monument is. Really. A 26-foot tall, 60-ton concrete buffalo. He stands outside of the same town that houses the National Bison Museum, a place on our must-see list.

One plan is to start at Fargo, stop at Jamestown, then drive west across the state through the Great Plains to get to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and drive the scenic loop through the Badlands and see herds of bison and wild horses. A lot of people seem to think that prairie dog towns are a big deal and I guess they are interesting. I suppose a national park setting is appropriate to see them but they are a pest and a real problem to ranchers here in Colorado.

and then hit Montana and Wyoming on the way back to Colorado.
