Here’s the haps:
One of the countries formed when the former Yugoslavia did a peaceful breakup in 1991 was the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia which was officially recognized by the United States in 1994. After years of arguing with Greece over using the name Macedonia they finally settled the dispute by calling the country North Macedonia.
A country of 2 million people and one guy has tried to make it a little bit nicer. An 11-year-old girl with Down Syndrome was being bullied at school including parents of other kids boycotting the school and not allowing their kids to be in the same class. The young girl, Embla Ademi, was put in a separate class by herself.
When President Stevo Pendarovski heard about what was going on, he was not happy. Apparently, he makes a regular habit of meeting disabled people and their families and working with organizations that defend disabled people.
This video has details of the story but it is read by a robot:

What a horrible situation for that poor little girl, but it’s refreshing to see a politician have morality be his guide.
Yeah, I thought that was really good.
Thanks for digging out these stories for us, Herb.
😊
Dang. That must have been a weird experience for the bullies. Hopefully it made them rethink a couple of things.
I hope so too.
It is nice to see someone powerful do something genuine for someone who is powerless.
I thought so, too.
