*** Something Nice On The ‘Net Saturday disclaimer: I started this feature with the intention of highlighting some good people (and animals) out there who deserve some sort of recognition and showing or giving people hope that human nature has not completely gone down the tubes, yet. I wanted to highlight upbeat and inspiring things that offset the rest of the nastiness on the Internet. It is not my desire to make anyone recall bad times or feel sad or even argumentative about anything in this feature and I apologize for any ill feelings or discomfort I have caused or might cause in the future. ***

Here’s the haps:
One of the many places I like to read besides the genius satirical site the Babylon Bee is Not The Bee. Not The Bee, run by the same company, tells real news stories and does not do satire. It was on there that the headline This NICU nurse adopted preemie triplets AND their teen mom so they could all stay together caught my attention.
Katrina Mullen, a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, has 23 years of experience. Sometimes people in a field like that can become jaded and insensitive but that wasn’t the case in this situation. 14-year-old Shariya Small came into the hospital and gave birth to very premature (26 weeks gestation) triplets. Our family has had babies in the NICU and at that age, everything is touch and go and pins and needles. During this stressful time, Mullen developed a rapport, then a friendship, then a deep relationship with Small. She promised to be there for her. After Small was discharged from the hospital, Mullen would call her and visit her and bring her things she needed for the babies.
The Indiana Department of Child Services decided that where Small and the babies lived was unsatisfactory and the children would have to be put in foster care. Mullen knew that this was just as good as saying the family would be broken up and so, despite having 5 children of her own, she took the girl and her babies in and a year later she adopted them all. Small is now going to graduate High School as a Junior and has already been accepted by two colleges.

Thanks for bringing out attention to “Not The Bee.”
You’re welcome. It’s a great site.
What an incredible person Katrina Mullen is! I’m assuming she has a husband and he is just as incredible. Great post, Herb.
I expect she must have. I think he’s in one of the pictures I saw while looking this up.
Wow. That’s a beautiful story.
I thought it was pretty good, too.
Wow this is such a wonderful story!
I thought so, too.
Genuinely an altruistic act of the NICU nurse. Bless her. Thanks for a lovely share.
You’re welcome and thanks for reading.
My pleasure💞
Thank you so much for sharing unique information in your blog post I really like it.
great choice
Thank you.
Wow, what a beautiful story. I can just imagine how challenging it is for a high school kid to raise three babies on her own. I mean for anybody, that is a great amount of work. Sometimes I wonder how my grandmother brought up 9 children.
It’s really amazing what people are capable of.
First, this is a story of people at their best. Second, I live in Indianapolis and completely missed hearing about this. Thanks for being my source for local news.
Good stuff everywhere gets overlooked a lot. It doesn’t sell.
This is fantastic. Those babies will grow with healthier attachments and their mom will grow with a more-solid mother figure.
I thought that also.
You find the best stories, Herb. Comment for Best Compliment post: I also love hearing what you have to teach.
Thank you so much, Geoff.
This is such a beautiful story of what happened.
Thank for sharing this Herb. It keeps my faith alive 🤣😎🙃
