Award Winning Wednesday – Michael Miller at The Tin Cup Clan

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22636 – 939

Here’s the haps:

Hello My Dear Fans, Friends, Fiends, Foes, Foundlings, Frogs, Frontiersmen, and Fidgeters,

See, this is what happens to me, I skip a day in a streak. “Herb, nobody’s going to miss you for one day.” But one day turns into a week, turns into a month turns into a decade…well, okay, that may be a bit dramatic this time, but it has been too long. The thing is, and we have discussed this at length before, I know, but I like putting out quality content and I like the idea of posting daily, and a lot of times the two don’t/can’t always coincide.

I do confess that I just took some days off because I was sick of what I was seeing on the blog. Don’t misunderstand. I love old (clean) jokes and memes and even a lot of my old stuff but in the same breath, I can only stand doing so much of it. As I was pondering these things, wondering what my next new, “real” post would be, I was also going through my reader and visiting blogs and leaving comments as I oft-times am wont to do when I saw a new post from an old blog friend, The Tin Cup Clan.

I don’t remember if it was the serendipity that sometimes comes from using the WordPress Reader and looking at the suggestions they offer or a link somewhere else or what but I liked it. That isn’t always true. A lot of times I think WordPress Reader’s algorithms are more than a little whacked in the head but I have found a few great blogs that way. He does follow some of the same blogs I follow and may have left a comment there and I clicked on him. I have found a few that way as well. Whatever the case, I like him.

I have read and heard for a long time that people who live in the U.S. Appalachian Mountains and in the small communities scattered throughout have their own unique sub-culture and as you read this blog you will see that it’s true. Up to a certain point, where you start to realize that country folks have some things in common no matter what continent or country you are talking about. And then the light begins to dawn that country folks and city people have some things in common, again, no matter where you are talking about. No matter how you group or classify people, we are all the same in a lot of ways. Folks is folks is people is people. A church community, a racial group, teachers, retail workers, miners, on and on and on, all have community and, as my dad used to say, “There’s good and bad in all of ’em.”

Started as a way to promote his book series, The Tin Cup Clan and also as a way to leave a legacy for his children and grandchildren, The Tin Cup Clan blog offers stories, both fictional and non-, of the past with lessons to be learned. I was very excited to read about his blog’s latest efforts to preserve this very special slice of Americana in a post called The Heritage Project, a series I am really looking forward to.

As longtime readers will know, this award is NOT an internet chain letter, like the large majority of so-called awards are. It does not require links back to me or a posting of the award on their blog. Those things are nice but they aren’t the point. The point is that I want to share what I consider quality blogs with you, my quality audience. He can put it in a post or place it on his blog, link to me if he wants, or do nothing whatsoever with it. But, nonetheless, I am offering, from Herb’s Blog, the “Herb likes this blog and would like to have coffee with this blogger sometime,” award to the interesting, sometimes whimsical, very often wise, always down to Earth blog, The Tin Cup Clan.
