A New Year’s Reflection-ish Sort Of Thingy And Well-Wishes For The New Year

A New Year’s Reflection-ish Sort Of Thingy And Well-Wishes For The New Year

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22609 – 923

Here’s the haps:

This will be a fairly brief one, I think (right now, anyway) because our church is having a New Year’s Eve Bash. A few hours playing games and eating followed by a testimony service followed by noisemakers ringing in the new year.

Since this is the end of the year I want to thank all of you, my readers, new and old, for encouraging me and making me want to do it. It is very humbling when I think of the fact that there are preachers, preachers’ wives, teachers, Sunday School teachers, financial advisors, barristers, scientists, authors, and other highly educated people who come here along with people who may not have the alphabet soup behind their names but are no less those readers’ equals. The broad diversity of my readership gives me pause to reflect and be thankful. You guys are the greatest audience a blogger could want.

We were listening to some Old Time Radio shows from VintageRadioShows.com and this one attached here is from January 1, 1946, and is called Tall Story Contest and features Fibber trying to type up a tall tale for a contest and he has what we would say in modern vernacular, writer’s block and can’t think of anything to say. I have the Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast. Haven’t listened to it yet. Wonder if it has the same impact and being able to believe it was a news broadcast.

It’s very well-done (in my opinion) even if you know about the panics. It’s definitely worth taking the time to listen to.
