NaBloPoMo Day 20 – Sorry, Folks, Not Much To See Here

NaBloPoMo Day 20 – Sorry, Folks, Not Much To See Here

Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22569 – 882

Here’s the haps:

Today we had our church’s annual Harvest Feast which we couldn’t have last year. A potluck dinner (I know there are other names in different parts of the world but I can’t think of them right off.) with skits and singing and a good time. Each family brings a main dish, a side dish, and a dessert to pass. You make as much of each item as would feed your family plus a couple more people, then they are all put on tables, and everyone lines up and makes a plate. Daughter Tabitha made a chicken casserole (In Wisconsin we simply referred to any casserole as “hot dish.”) that she makes whenever there are people coming over that is always a hit and she made a blue jello mixed with whipped cream and blueberries that will probably ever more be known as Smurf Pudding.

I got home this morning around 6:30 and made a big, strong pot of coffee and I have been going ever since because these dishes require shopping for ingredients and help along the way in preparing and then the actual event winds up taking several hours. I also have a Sunday School lesson to finish putting together. So, I am wiped out and have nothing to say other than tomorrow I will visit the blogs I missed today.

And, of course, thank you all for stopping by, I really appreciate the great and intelligent audience I have. Yes, that means YOU, too.

I have always called a casserole a casserole lol. I don’t think I ever heard it called a hot dish before. 🤔🤔

That’s really interesting. I wonder if it’s a regional thing?

The Methodist Church I attended as a child, had “Hot Dish Suppers” in the Fellowship Hall, back in the 1960s.

That’s interesting. I’ve only ever heard it from people from the Midwest.

Though I’ve never been to such a church event, I’ve always liked the idea of those potlucks. Just seems like a good way to bring people together…

In my hometown during its height, in my lifetime, we’d have tons of community events, among them potluck dinners. I miss all that.

I really like it. It’s a different kind of get-together.

I usually microwave something from the store. If you’ve ever sampled my cooking you’d know that it’s the safer choice

It’s a safe choice for many of us, I think.

Growing up Lutheran in the Midwest, the casserole could have been one of the four basic food groups. I learned that there is a really wide range in casseroles: most are average, some are awful, and a few will cause a stampede when it comes out of the oven. It is good to have a recipe for the third kind in the family.

And wow – to be both great and intelligent at the same time! So glad I came here!
