Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22364 – 828:
Here’s the haps:
I happened across this song by serendipity. I have heard it often enough before but just not recently. I like its upbeat, positive message and am feeling pretty good, albeit tired, today so it fit my mood.
Being “Young at Heart” according to Lexico.com is an adjective meaning:
…Especially of middle-aged or elderly people: having qualities associated with young people, especially energy, enthusiasm, or optimism.
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/young_at_heart
Colin McQueen said somewhere (I couldn’t find the exact spot, sorry) “Middle-Aged forever!” I’m not elderly although I knew a lady who was the epitome of this song when she was a hundred and five. And I’m not really sure about the energy part, especially at this time of night, but I think I have the other two, enthusiasm and optimism. I guess I am not feeling the least bit curmudgeonly today at all. Well, at this moment, anyway.
A couple of my favorite lines from this song are:
“…And life gets more exciting with each passing day…”
“…If you should survive to a hundred and five/look at all you’ll derive out of being alive/and here is the best part/you’ll have a head-start/if you are among the very young at heart…”

Classic Sinatra of course…. That brings back memories too. I miss some of the oldies. Better music back then in a lot of ways.
I agree. There was music, melody, harmony. It was a different sound.
I always look for old albums of Sinatra in thrift stores not really to play but collect the album covers.
I like the music from that era a lot. Album art would be a whole post by itself. Perhaps you would consider posting some of your collection sometime?
Whoa, 105 is a LONG time to live!! That’s INSANE!!
It’s a cool song- pleasing to listen to.
It is a very nice song. She was 105 and still knew everybody. For her 95th birthday she went for a motorcycle ride. For her 100th birthday she went for a ride in a Model T.
W H A T
Yeah. Her great granddaughter stops by the blog every once in a while. I should have her do a guest post about her when she has the time.
That’s a great idea!!
Living to 105 used to seem like a poetic exaggeration but the older I get, the more interested I become in embracing the science behind the notion.
Isn’t that the truth. When I think of how the world has changed both for better and not in the 61 years I have been around it becomes interesting what the next 40 or 50 or even 60 will bring.
I realized recently that the song “Forever Young” is about a nuclear holocaust, so perhaps this is a more uplifting message.
Possibly.
Great song!
Thanks!
Very laid back. I like it!
Thank you, sir. Thanks for the comment, also. Welcome back.
