Herb’s Blog, Herbdate 22156 – 725:

Dear And Beloved Fans, Friends, Fiends, Foes, Foundlings, Fairies, Fearies, Frogs, Flower Children, And Other Assorted Woodland And Urban Creatures And People,

Felicitous salutations to you all. (That means, “Howdy!) I have been having a good time catching up on everyone’s blogs and I plan to do some more catching up as I get a chance. I was over at Chateau Cherie’s blog reading her articles and quotes about bullying. It is a very real thing that is not relegated to the Sixth Grader who has flunked out a couple of years and should really be in the eighth grade beating up the Fourth Grader for his lunch money, although that type of psychology is part of the subject. She discusses what bullying is and how it is not only in the schoolyard but in the workplace and in many other settings as well. She also offers advice based on her own research and life experiences. If you are being bullied, whether in cyberspace or real space, check out her blog for good advice and encouragement. Nowadays young people and adults alike feel so victimized that they sometimes either kill themselves or others. It is one of the serious problems facing communities around the world and around your block.

All that being said, along with the respect I have for her and her work, I did have to argue with her about one of her recent posts. She wrote a post entitled, “Dandelions Are Beautiful but Not Real Flowers” Which I had a little fun with in the comments section. Now if she had said Roses instead of Dandelions I wouldn’t have taken issue, lol, as some of you may recall my feelings about them from a post a couple of years back that I did called, “A Flowery Fiendish Conspiracy” in which I exposed how the giving of roses is really a trick of the devil. Even though my wife has since been healed by God of her severe, near-fatal allergy to roses, I still think I was on the right track with that one. Anyway, we had a little fun and nobody got hurt feelings. Go over there to visit and read it. I already have tomorrow’s post started. In my head at least. It’s about you, my wonderful readers and followers.

Blow on the puff ball and make a wish

Bullying is a serious problem and is present in all stages of life. Her post sounds like it’s a good un.
Are dandelions flowers? My mother classified them as weeds, but as a child I could never understand the difference between weeds and flowers, except one seemed wanted and the other didn’t.

I’ve always wondered about that, too. Every little kid brings their mom “flowers.”

    Roses are beautiful too

      Well, weeds can be beautiful.

The worse thing I ever saw at teacher do was when I was in grade 3. Mrs. Andrews threw a bouquet of dandelions into the garbage and told the student who had given them to her that they were weeds. It still makes me shudder when I think of that.

That’s really awful, horrible behavior! I’m mad and upset and hurt and it didn’t even happen to me.

I can’t imagine why someone like that would go into teaching. She obviously didn’t like kids and didn’t care if she hurt them. That’s the only thing I remember about her.

It’s kind of sad, too, that that is the only way she’s likely to be remembered.

I think if you do those things to little kids, you deserve that particular “punishment”.

Yeah, I agree! But just think if she had just been a little bit kind, what good she might have wrought.

That’s the thing about being a teacher. Every day, you have so many opportunities to make kids feel good about themselves and it’s REALLY important to do that because most kids are so hard on themselves.

                  Yes ma’am. You’re right.
