Last night my daughter in Pueblo fell down the stairs at her house and severely broke her ankle and needs surgery. She had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and they really doped her up.
The weird thing to me is that, at around the same time she fell, I walked out onto the patio of my house and tripped over something (See, I’m not always trippin’ over nothin’) and spilled on the ground. I landed pretty hard on my elbow and hip and somewhat on my knee. Thankfully, my son-in-law and my wife were able to help me get back up. I was roughed up real good but thankfully nothing was broken. Well, nothing but this:
A terra cotta planter in the shape of a hippopotamus. I landed full force on it.

Ouch! Hope you are fine now sir!
Thanks. I’m feeling better.
You’re welcome! That’s great!
Ouch for real! That sounds painful.
I always wondered what it was like to turn 18 and become old and I’ve been experiencing it too much lately. Always getting hurt in stupid ways and the soreness and pain lasts forever. I feel super old.
I’m going to start calling you Granny.
Now I’m gonna cry. I thought I was your daughter.
Yeah, my daughter, Granny.
😭😭😭😭😭
😂😂😂er, I meant aww, poor baby.
I don’t know what’s worse… granny or baby. sniff
How about Wimpy?
😲😲😲I can’t believe a nice guy like you would say such a thing!
Okay, okay. Daughter Granny it is, then.
I give up.
About time.
🙄🙄🙄
Did you roll your eyes at me‽‽‽
Yeah, what’s wrong with that?
Didn’t your parents ever get after you for rolling your eyes‽‽‽
Naw. I only did it when I needed to and I didn’t let them see it. I know – I’m bad. You don’t have to tell me.
But telling you is half the fun. You’re bad.
You are so tough! Be glad you became my father once I was old!
Oh, I would have known how to deal with your kind. That’s why men are supposed to wear belts.
Now THAT sounds scary!😧😨😱 I’ve never had to deal with that before. Guess that means I’m good… or wait, I’m bad. Actually rotten. Not anymore though… just a year ago.
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
(Pro 23:13-14)
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
(Pro 22:15)
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
(Pro 19:18)
So you’re a dad and a preacher.
No, I’m a Sunday School teacher and I have read the whole Bible through many times. Corporal punishment is only one part of a well-rounded discipline.
Wow. You’re very knowledgeable. Amazing.
Thanks. I think.
Wow poor hippo…. Or poor you. That had to hurt to land on.
Yeah. It did.
Wow! Glad you are better. What a week…it will end soon. 🙏🏽
Well, I sure hope so. Oh, well.
Yep…this too shall pass.
My boss tripped a month or so back and broke her nose. That was pretty dramatic, and probably the only time during the pandemic I was glad there were plenty of people around to help. I tend to be extremely lucky when I fall. Even that time earlier this year, the car incident, I was like an unlucky/lucky cat! That was the best part of THAT experience! Bounced right back up. Still wish it hadn’t happened, but what can you do?
Well, sometimes you can’t do much. I felt helpless as I was going down and then frustrated.
So sorry about your daughter but you can now say proudly. Yup the other day I broke a hippo in half
Look on the bright side and stay well
You know, that’s true. Not everyone can say that.
Poor thing! Praying for a speedy recovery. Surgery is scary to me. I’ve had about five surgeries and they still terrify me
Thanks so much. Yeah, hospitals are no fun and surgery just makes them worse.
Owwie! I hope you and your daughter have speedy recovery!
