April 1st, 2020

Well, I should have learned by this time to never read headlines or look at the news or anything like that, but when I saw that today’s Google Doodle is about something serious and they are not going to do their annual April Fool’s joke, I was kind of upset. Apparently, most of the major corporations that usually do little pranks and gags are not going to. This kind of makes me unhappy. I understand it’s too early, even for gallows humor, to joke about Covid-19, but surely there must be something jocund we can discuss. No! No jocularity and don’t call me shirley.

I think we can have fun and do things that are fun and funny while understanding and respecting the gravity of the moment. I really did laugh out loud when I went to Ben’s blog and saw what his family did. Those were both fun and funny. https://brotherscampfire.com/i-am-the-april-fool/

My oldest bio-daughter sent me a text this morning that said the dictionary definition of quarantine is, “a period of 40 days.” So 2020 or 20 + 20 = quarantine.

And you know, on top of everything else, some people have other things going on, both good and bad. I had someone tell me about this guy, who had this story: “A couple months ago, I entered a contest and ended up winning a few acres of swampland below the flood plain in Mississippi. Before I knew it, right after that I won a $250,000 house, so naturally, I built it on my new land. Last week, I won enough money in the lottery to quit my job and move down there for good. And just last night, as I sat on my new porch watching the rain and listening to the thunder, it all started to sink in.”

Sorry. I know there are some very serious goings-on. I read somewhere that a couple of pranksters broke into the local police station and stole all the toilets. A police department spokesperson was quoted as saying, “We have absolutely nothing to go on!”

It’s mind-boggling how quickly and easily we’ve allowed COVID-19 to completely alter how we live our lives. And it’s even more mind-boggling that this is being done for a pandemic that is virtually invisible. For most of the world it exists only in the news and disruption methods used to contain it (and by “it” I’m not sure if I refer to the news or the pandemic).

It’s a strange situation, no question about it. How long are people going to put up with it might be the question.

LOL I agree, this crisis has caused a huge stampede! I refuse to panic! When this thing first hit, you didn’t see me running out to buy a shopping cart spilling over with packs of toilet paper! I’m still befuddled about that!

Yeah, I don’t get it either.
