Grandma Fell

Every year Our church has a giant potluck dinner around Thanksgiving called the Harvest Feast. It’s a great get-together with skits and songs and food, food, food. When we first got here thirty years ago they used to have it at a fancy restaurant every year until Brother Johnson discovered that some people couldn’t come because of cost. That really bothered him and to make sure everyone could get together and fellowship he came up with the idea of doing a potluck where each family brought a main dish, a side dish, and a dessert.

Anyway, it was dark when we left. The front wheel of Grandma’s chair caught on a crack in the pavement and she pitched forward right onto her face. A definite “OUCH!”, no interrobang about it. It looked really bad. Fortunately, with a head would, the more it bleeds and the worse it looks, a lot of times the better it is. The ambulance arrived quickly and because of some of her meds they chose the safe route and took her to the hospital.

Thankfully, All went well and the text went out, “Grandma is fine. CAT scan came out okay. They are going to glue her face together and send her home.” I’m thinking that, to make it to be 89 years old (closer to 90), you have to be really hard-headed.

“Glue her face together.” Heh. It sounds funny, but I get it. When my mom was deteriorating, I was there for one of her bad falls, which gave her a cut above her eye. I kept it compressed until medics arrived, and it turned out well. But the blood is never fun to look at.

True, the blood isn’t fun to look at. The medical Super Glue is pretty cool, though.
