Going to Albuquerque

Going to Albuquerque

We have had a large family trip to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival in the works for several months now and it is about to happen. And, unlike Bugs Bunny, since I am going to Albuquerque I don’t have to worry about the left turn. We don’t do it annually, just when the timing feels right and then we start planning a few months ahead of time. This year it was Middle Daughter that did most of the planning. We try to include everyone but even planning that far ahead sometimes stuff comes up and not everyone can make it, which is a bummer, but sometimes there’s nothing to be done.

The way this all started was that, years ago, when the kids were young, I had a coworker tell me about this balloon fiesta in Albuquerque. I had described how much the kids had like the balloon thing we had here in the Springs and she told me that the one down there was so many more balloons. This year ours had 60+ balloons and Albuquerque has 600 registered. So I did a little homework and found out when the special shapes event would be, put the kids to bed early the night before and then picked them up in the middle of the night and put them in the van and drove the almost 400 miles arriving in time to get there before the gates opened.

It was, but it was worth it.
