Blogging A – Z Challenge
A is for Aggravation
Actually I am already a day late getting started on this. I didn’t sign up with the IWSG (Insecure Writers Support Group) to do the official challenge, but I probably should have. Their theme this year, I think, is encouraging writers. I didn’t sign up to do it because I wasn’t sure if I was up to the challenge of having all those people come look at my site every single day and try to find something new.
I decided I need to get back in the habit of writing every day, though, even if it’s just a little bit. I obviously want to because I still have this website up and have been re-uploading all of my old files from the blog’s hey-day. I think that’s what made me decide to go back to doing it. I read all of the stuff about my mom and dad’s last days and all of the stuff about the kids and all of the political stuff and realized that not only was I practicing my writing, I was also making a chronicle. A history of my life and beliefs and thoughts. So, back I am.
A day late starting, which of course aggravates my OCD/Perfectionist nature, telling me not to do it this year because I didn’t do it right, I didn’t sign up and all my readers have left. Then I think of my former audience. How did I keep such a diverse group, from hardworking everyday Schmoes to scientists and teachers and preachers? They wanted to read what I had to say. I have already had one co-worker at the store tell me that she has looked at my blog a couple of times, but there was nothing here. Well, I hope to quit aggravating you, Gentle Readers (I still love Miss Manners) and actually begin posting again.
I noticed in the archives that I always ended each piece with a real or made-up quote “from the good book” in honor of Reb Tevye. I don’t have one today, so I will use this quote I saw at the IWSG from Ray Bradbury,
“Any man who keeps working is not a failure. He may not be a great writer, but if he applies the old-fashioned virtues of hard, constant labor, he’ll eventually make some kind of career for himself as a writer.”

No, no, no, no, no, NO! You’ve got the letter order completely wrong: it’s ‘CDO’! 😛
(Link is good. Just noticed an oddity about your site… when I select text that’s not in a comment, I get a Twitter symbol pop up, inviting me to tweet it. Does Twitter give you a kickback on those, or something?)
This comment was brought to you courtesy of ?Random Raiders! 🙂
Thanks. I did use the CDO thing a couple of times elsewhere.
Thanks for telling me about the Twitter thing. I tried it and sure enough, that’s what happened to me too. I don’t know anything about Twitter. I have never had an account there and blogs are as far as I go with Social Media. I’m going to have to find out why it does that because I don’t have any sort of relationship with them and don’t want any, either.
Intriguing. I wonder how that’s happened, then? I’ve never seen it anywhere else. Let me know if you figure out what’s causing it!
I will. That’s very strange.
D’oh. Maybe I got that from you in the first place, then 🙂
The tweety thingy seems to be happening in the comments now, too. Seems that while one of the little birdies is up, you won’t get another one, so maybe I was misled by that into thinking that it didn’t affect text in comments, when it does.
Have you installed any plugins on your site lately? Just did a quick search, and found this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19188896/how-to-tweet-highlighted-text
I haven’t lately but I will definitely take a look at this when I get time. I appreciate your help.
Wow. Well I did discover that I had a plugin, I don’t know if it came with the Gute Theme or where it came from but I don’t remember it. It’s called “Easy share solution” by Noor Alam. Thanks again for pointing it out. I deactivated it now.
Glad to have helped, Herb! 🙂
